(1862-1938)
He arrived in United States in 1874. In 1918, when the Hutterites were fleeing the U.S. to escape the draft and restrictive laws, Elias Walter Jr. was among the first.
Walter is of great importance to the Hutterites because it was through his extensive efforts that many copies of important Hutterite books were reproduced. Elias personally made copies of many of them, by hand. As well, he set up a book binding operation to bind the books of others.
Among those he personally copied are:
Riedemann's great Rechenschaft.
Lieder der Hutterischen Brüder
Gesangbüchlein . . . meistens aus alten Handschriften gesammelt
Andreas Ehrenpreis'
Sendbrief ... brüderliche Gemeinschaft, das höchste Gebot der Liebe
Geschichte der zwölf Patriarchen
Original Hutterite Chronicle (Geschicht-Buch)
Many volumes of Hutterite literature.
21 sermon books.
12 epistle books.
Handbüchlein wider den Prozess, a commentary on the Book of Revelation.
The Article Book.
Began a catalog of all Hutterite writings.
As well as others.
