When the church split, in 1528, Jacob was leader of the group that still maintained it would not bear arms, and committed to non violence. The group was known as "stickbearers, because they would only carry their walking sticks, and not guns.
Wiederman's group was ordered to leave the land, where they had been before the split, by the land owner Lord von Liechtenstein.
